Drake Bay's Beach House

Hidden away at the top of the Osa Penninsula is the little village by the name of Drake's Bay. Drake's Bay and its people have always welcomed visitors to enjoy its warm climate, gentle breezes and abundant natural wonders. In fact it was way back in 1579 that Sir Francis Drake hid out in this sleepy little port which bears his name.

The remote location, surrounded by jungle so thick National Geographic refers to as "one of the most biologically diverse places on the planet" Drake's Bay has been spared by what "modern development" has brought to other parts of Costa Rica.

The town of Drake's Bay has not grown very much since Sir Farncis's time either, and until recently it was only by air or boat that people came here. Often the town seems overrun with Scarlet Macaws and Humpback Whales bring their calves just offshore to rest during their long migration.

Many people use Drake's Bay as place from which to explore Corcovado, the famous National Park amazingly rich in flora and fauna. It is also a favorite amongst divers who come to explore the crystal clear waters surrounding Cano Island, another National Park just 7 miles from the beaches of Drake's Bay.

No matter what brings you to Drake's Bay there is no better place to stay than at the Little Drake's Bay Beach house. Completed in 2008, this environmentally friendly villa sits on a beach front hill, overlooking the gorgeous waters and beaches of Drake's Bay. You can sit on the expansive veranda enjoying this awesome view in the privacy of the only rental home of its kind in the area.

The home has one bedroom with a custom made queen bed downstairs and a large open layout upstairs with a queen and two over sized single beds upstairs. There are ceiling fans as well as air conditioning along with modern oven, refrigerator, and other kitchen appliances.

Daily maid service and a care taker are available.

Lapa Rios Ecolodge

Lapa Rios was designed in harmony with the surrounding forest and beach environment. The main lodge and bungalows line three ridges and are connected by walking paths and steps. Built over 350 feet above the sea, Lapa Rios catches the cooling tropical ocean and forests breezes. The main lodge and the Brisa Azul restaurant soar 50 feet above the sea and, like the private 16 bungalows, are built of locally harvested materials and have intricately woven palm thatched roofs. Climb the lodge’s three-story circular stairway to overlook the forest canopy and breathtaking ocean vistas. Comfortable, locally made bamboo furniture and huge private decks aid relaxation amidst pristine nature.

Rain forest and ocean activities bring together guests and the community. Daily guest experiences include a variety of staff naturalist led rain forest interpretive hikes, bird watching walks and sustainable/educational local project visits. Ocean-mangrove boating trips, dolphin and whale watching, kayaking and surfing are offered by neighbouring guides, as well as massages and yoga classes. Some guests’ highlights include a day hike in Corcovado National Park (via small plane transfer) or a night spent on the overnight platform; others find relaxing at the pool or hammock napping most memorable.
