Liberia Costa Rica

Liberia Costa Rica is one of the oldest cities in Costa Rica and is the provincial capital of the sunny Guanacaste Region. Liberia is a long time trading hub remains the economic centre of the Guanacaste Province.

Largest cattle farms are based in Guanacaste in Costa Rica and Liberia is gateway to some of the most beautiful beaches and National Parks of Costa Rica.

The city of Liberia Costa Rica is a very friendly and locally the town is often referred to as La ciudad Blanca (the white city) due to the white bahareque houses, a material made of straw and cattle dung, similar to adobe. In Costa Rica Liberian is the only city to which the term colonial could be applied.

The Guanacaste Day festival is on the 25th of July celebrating Guanacaste's Province annexation to Costa Rica and is a can’t miss event if you want to witness a true Costa Rican Fiesta. There’s also the Fiesta Civicas de Liberia which is in the last week of February and the first week of March. This Fiesta is organized by the Comite de Fiestas Civicas de Liberia and celebrate Liberia as well as the province of Guancaste's culture and tradition, with Tico style bullfights (1 bull, 300 people and one small bullfighting ring). If you wish to experience and visit this Fiesta, make sure the hotel reservations are done far in advance as possible.

Liberia Costa Rica has the second most important international airport in Costa Rica, officially known as Daniel Oduber International, code; LIR. Liberia Airport is the starting point for those wishing to take advantage of the beautiful spectacular beaches northwestern Costa Rica. Furthermore, it is also becoming a gateway to all of Costa Rica with connecting local flights and ground transportation to entire Costa Rica.

Liberia has very good private, bus, taxis, and car rental ground services readily available.

Liberia is a great city and the visitors should take the time to spend an afternoon or an evening in the authentic Costa Rican city before or after their flight and discover other nearby activities and attractions.

Liberia is a great city and an ideal location to begin your vacation in Costa Rica. It is less than an hour from Tamarindo and Papagayo and only 3 hours to Volcano Arenal and about 3.5 hours to the cloud forest of Monteverde Cloud Forest.
