Costa Rica Climate
Costa Rica Climate - Costa Rica is a subtropical country where the sun rises at around 6am and sets at around 6pm throughout the year. The seasons can broadly be divided into dry (December to April), known locally as verano (summer), and wet (May to November), known as invierno (winter) and also more pleasantly as the green seasons. However, there are striking variations in weather throughout this small country. The warm, humid Caribbean and southern Pacific coasts receive relatively high rainfall even in the dry season and are drenched in the wet season. By contrast, it gets extremely dry and hot in the northwest, while San Jose and the central valley experience gentle warmth year round and in the highlands it even gets cold. Temperatures vary from over 35°C (90°F) in the north-western dry season to below 0°C (32°F) on the highest peaks; but the one thing that is consistent throughout Costa Rica is the strong sun. Required Clothing Most of the year lightweight cottons and linens, for cooler evenings have warmer clothes. Waterproofing is necessary during the rainy season. Loose-fitting clothing is best. Wear neutral browns and greens for birding and wildlife viewing.
